JACK NORTON: BIOGRAPHY

    Inspired.

    Creative.

    Passionate.

Jack Norton blends inspiration, creativity and passion into every new project. His attention to detail and limitless energy have earned him accolades from business and creative minds alike.

Jack was born March 15, 1985 in California but grew up in Toronto, Canada. His family encouraged his artistic pursuits and as a child Norton developed a love of music, writing and performing. On the first day of middle school, Jack become best friends with a girl named Kitty; the two would later marry and co-create a children's brand called the Zinghoppers.

Prior to his work with the Zinghoppers, Jack toured the country (while in high school) leading a "dixieland-bluegrass-punk" band. He also wrote short stories and poetry, becoming the youngest poet ever published by Random House.

Jack may be the only person in the world that received a birthday greeting call from Tom Waits (at age 16), a collaboration with gritty author Nick Tosches (at age 15), guitar lessons with Leon Redbone (at age 12), ukulele lessons with Tiny Tim (at age 15), and found legendary British DJ John Peel playing an entire forty-five minute mix tape of Norton's original songs (written at age 17) on Peel's acclaimed BBC Radio 1 show.

After high school, Norton studied Early Childhood Education and his experience as a preschool teacher helped form the educational principals found in the Zinghoppers music. Norton's senior thesis (entitled, "The Childhood Dignity Movement"), influenced the Zinghoppers core goals of "educating, entertaining and engaging" young children.

While in college, Norton's love of hip-hop culture and dance music led him to attend raves and underground rap house parties. Electro, hip-hop, Disney pop and dance music serves as the basis of Jack's musical influences.

The Nortons moved to Nashville in 2009 to begin production of "The Zinghoppers Show", a series now airing on public television. He has won the prestigious "Best Children's Entertainer" award from Parent Magazine for the past three consecutive years. In addition to his busy production schedule, Jack is a sought-after public speaker, leading countless teacher training seminars that focus on helping preschool teachers incorporate music and movement in the classroom.

Norton has been on the GRAMMY nomination ballot twice (for "Best Children's Album") and in 2011 was nominated for three EMMY Awards: twice for his work in the "Children's Program" category, and in the highly-competitive "Music Composer/Arranger" category...unprecedented for a kids song to be up against all other genres. Just another testament to Jack's all-ages appeal and high-quality songwriting.
