study in folk music

With his peaceful demeanor and gentle friendly personality, people often ask about Jack's religious background.

Conductor Jack is a devout Catholic and attends church near his home in Tennessee. "I was raised in the Lutheran church and my wife was raised in the Baptist church, so we picked a denomination that was new to both of us," jokes Jack.

He performs in both public (non-religious) and church venues. In addition to his own original songs written with his wife Kitty, Jack has performed folk songs and traditional tunes from all over the world including songs from people of all walks of life. Jack's mission is to provide children with "one more honest adult in their lives", so he presents a program that can be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds. "I feel a calling to perform simple, age-appropriate music that honors young children and brings families together."

Jack is currently recording a CD with the characters from TV's "The Zinghoppers Show", that will feature many songs based on stories found in the Old Testament of the Bible. He loves performing this material in concerts at churches and for Vacation Bible Schools. Jack's performances are always tailored to meet his audience's needs. "No two shows are ever the same. At churches, we love to play original material, camp songs and Christian kids music."

Similar to children's TV legend (and ordained Presbyterian minister) Mr. Rogers, Jack's faith and simple honesty has been both respected and praised by the International Parenting Association who hailed Jack as, "a gentle entertainer who is positive role model for young children and their families."

"I believe that music is a gift from God and it is my responsiblity to use my music to help bring families together, make children happy," says Jack, " and to provide entertainment for all ages that is good, clean, family fun."

Prior to earning his degree in Early Childhood Education, Jack attended Bible College and studied Old Testament Theology. "While at college, I realized that my ministry was to work with children and families," says Jack. "I am happy to be singing traditional folk songs and original tunes that encourage family togetherness and musical fun."

Conductor Jack's performances for churches are designed to teach timeless values like honesty and kindness in a delightfully wacky and fun way.

    CHURCH CONCERT INFO

How to host a Conductor Jack event at your church...

  • Hosting a concert by Conductor Jack And Friends is an opportunity to encourage the children and families in your church, have an evangelistic outreach within your community, provide a time of family fun and to create a special event within your church.

  • Think of a concert by Conductor Jack And Friends as a family event designed to encourage parents and to reach out to families with small children in your community. We suggest you first seek to enlist the cooperation of other ministries within your church body: Evangelism Ministry, Family Life Ministry, Seniors Sunday School Class, MOPS, and Mother's Day Out Group for example.

  • Print and sell tickets for $5 (or more) per person with a $20-$25 cap per family. By purchasing a ticket, parents see the event as having value. A ticket reminds them to go to the event, so overall attendance is increased...and don't worry, we'll print and number all the tickets for you!

  • Partner with other churches in the area to help share costs - be sure to sell tickets! For example, print 1000 tickets, ask 9 other churches to commit to sell 100 tickets and there'll be over 1,000 people at the show! All of our costs will be covered and there will even be money available for your church's preschool budget!

  • Approach several Christian day care centers or preschools to partner with you - be sure to sell tickets!

  • Find a Christian businessman, father, grandfather to underwrite part/all of the costs - and be sure to sell tickets!
